Land-based casinos
A land-based casino is a physical casino with a licence to provide roulette, poker, baccarat, punto banco, black jack, and gambling on gaming machines.
Today, there are seven casinos with licence to operate land-based casinos in Denmark. On this page, you can find a list of the casinos with a licence.
How to obtain a licence
At the moment it is not possible to apply for a licence to operate a casino in Denmark.
When one of the current applications are available, it will be offered publically. In addition, the the government may decide to open up for more licences to establish casinos.
Available licences will be put out to tender via the press after which you can apply for a licence with the Danish Gambling Authority.
How to get an approval
A manager and staff at a casino must be approved by the Danish Gambling Authority. To apply for an approval, you must use form no. 8-01.
In the guide to the form, you can see which documents you must send along with the form. If the Danish Gambling Authority intend to attach terms and conditions to the approval, you will receive a letter of consultation with a deadline to respond to the letter if you have any comments.
The letter will say that you can renounce your right to comment, if you tell us that you want to have your application processed as quickly as possible.
When the Danish Gambling Authority has completed your application, you will be informed of whether your application has been approved.
Casework time
Please note that it may take up to 14 days to process your case. The 14 days start when the Danish Gambling Authority has received your answer to the letter of consultation.

Certification programme
Certificate program documents
When you have obtained a licence
A licence is valid for 10 years.
Gaming machines in land-based casinos must like other gaming machines be approved by an accredited test house and be connected to the control system at the Danish Gambling Authority. The approval is valid for five years. You will find a list of accredited test houses further below.
The Danish Gambling Authority supervises that the casinos are operated in a responsible manner. One of the ways in which we may conduct the supervision, is to have a supervisor from the Danish Gambling Authority be present during some of the opening hours of the casino.
Changes to the licence
If there are any changes to the licence, for example if new members join the board or a new member of the management is employed, this must be reported to the Danish Gambling Authority within 14 days. You must use forms nos. 2-07 L and 2-02 L.
Fee on land-based casino
Licence holders must pay an annual fee, which is calculated on the basis of the gross gaming revenue in the calendar year. New licence holders must pay the fee no later than one month after the licence has become effective.
